We caught up with Percy Natalia Karat as part of our ‘Day in the Life’ column to find out what life at Isobar is like and what her job entails.

Please describe your job: What do you do?

The Name’s Percy, Not Jackson — Percy Natalia Karat. As a part of Isobar Mumbai’s Social Media Team, my role spans from creating and implementing effective social media strategies and thinking ‘viral’ content ideas. The other times, I am just looking for places that serve the best chicken for lunch.

What kind of skills do you need to be effective in your role?

You are not just a social media marketer, you are a strategist, a copywriter, a designer, an analyst, a customer service representative — and finally, your end consumer — all in one.

To be effective in these roles, you need to have the ability to think from all perspectives.

At the same time, you also need to be an observer. It will only help you derive great insights for your next big idea.

Tell us about a typical working day…

It’s an adventure, trust me! I start my day before the sunrise enters your room. With three alarms, I not only manage to wake myself up but also my entire family. It takes me about an hour & a half to reach the office, so I have plenty of time at hand to plan my day. I generally start my day by browsing through various social platforms and looking up what’s trending. That’s also led me to follow more brands than people I even know. I list down my to-do on the way itself, so once I’m in the office, I’m ready to take over the priorities for the day.
My desk is my second home where I spend most of my time.

I miss these days now. The lockdown may have added a pause to this routine, but work from home does not feel any different.

The ideating, copywriting, analyzing, designing & execution, all the action takes place at home now. While this is happening, I am also between client calls, brainstorming sessions on Teams, emails, WhatsApp group messages, and munching on something or the other. The day goes by, feedback and new requirements keep coming in and while all this is happening, I am mostly done for the day.

What do you love about your job?

I strongly believe in the phrase “Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.”
The brands that I handle or should I say, ‘look after’ are my babies.

All I do is digitally babysit them on my job and I love being their ‘Social Media Momma!’

How did you end up at Isobar, and where might you go from here?

Aakriti, our National Head (Social) reached out to me on LinkedIn and that’s how my journey with Isobar unfolded. It’s been quite a journey with highs & lows, but I can surely say we are going strong.

Do you have any advice for marketers starting a career in an agency setup?

You must be passionate about what you do and take each day as it comes.

Make sure you keep learning, experimenting, and embrace each challenge that comes your way. If you’ve got a lot on your plate, that only means you’re doing great.

#AgencyLife as everyone calls it can get hard sometimes, but always find a balance between work and play. As the digital world is constantly evolving, stay updated with the latest news.

Lastly, while you hustle, you will have bad days and it’s okay. You will make mistakes and that is okay too. Just remember to BREATHE.
