A Day in the life of UI Developer, Raman Pratap
We caught up with Raman Pratap as part of our ‘Day in the Life’ column to find out what life at Isobar is like and what his job entails.
Please describe your job: What do you do?
At Isobar, I am a Front-end developer who codes what you see on websites and web-apps. The designs created for consuming information on browsers and other apps are brought to life by me. I am also adept at creating filters for social media platforms like augmented filters for Facebook and Instagram. These filters are the talk of the town these days. Additionally, I work with extensive HTML5, AMP page designs, AEM, HTML5 games development, and more. I constantly attempt to bring in a new paradigm to upgrade the linear fashion of working which is prevalent in the industry today.
What kind of skills do you need to be effective in your role?
I believe effectiveness comes from beyond technical expertise. I try to acquire skills belonging to the technological and leadership spheres, both. I have busied my mind-enhancing my understanding of technologies like HTML5 game creation, Augmented Reality, innovative UI implementations, chatbots, and more. But I also make sure I devote time to learn how to provide directions to a larger set of audiences. This approach not only brings in more clarity, but also a vision for the future.
Tell us about a typical working day…
A typical day in the office comprises of the routine I have set for myself to ensure things are on track. It may vary depending on the order of business on a particular day, but this is what I tend to stick to on a general basis.
Absorb: I ensure I reach out to something new to learn and update my existing knowledge.
Expand: I adopt a broader perspective of work-life and contribute to the business as a whole by laterally expanding. This is accompanied by a constant eye on the larger picture to further the vision of the company.
Organize: I constantly try to compact my search time and draw SOPs wherever necessary so I can adhere to them and ensure faultless execution. This goes on to streamlining known processes and speed up daily execution rolls.
How did you end up at Isobar, and where might you go from here?
My journey began at Mukesoft IT consultants where I absorbed skills that constituted my core competency. This is also where I got my first taste of company life and how it operates. Next came Dwellar, a company that opened doors for me to serve a multitude of verticals. This concretized my knowledge from Mukesoft and helped me steepen my learning curve. The powerhouse of knowledge that I had mustered only boosted my confidence when Isobar came in with an offer to develop front-end for them. Thanks to Isobar, I am not only capitalizing on my skills, but I am also maintaining a steep learning curve.
Do you have any advice for marketers starting a career in an agency setup?
To the aspirants who come into the market with that glitter in their eye and a strong determination to make it, my advice for them is to keep that fire burning. This fire is a gift that keeps on giving because it gives you a hunger to do better and the longevity to keep it going. As and how you become a seasoned professional, you realize that the situation in the market is different from the perspectives that you came in with. But if you maintain the dynamism that you came in with, it will carry you through to success. This is why they say, staying young at heart is the most important thing and it applies to work-life, too. Always keep in mind that success is achieved by continual progress and not continuous. Once you acquire a new skill, you must give yourself some time to concretize it before you learn the next.
